Carnival

Carnival

The Carnival of Águilas, is the most emblematic carnival in the Region of Murcia and one of the most famous in Spain. It was declared in 2015 as a festival of International Tourist Interest, being the third in Spain to reach this category.

It can be said that Águilas has two carnivals. The Carnival by Day and the Carnival by Night. During the daytime Carnival, the parades of the various carnival clubs take place, which parade through the streets of the town until they reach the statue of Icarus, a statue that represents the Carnival of Águilas. The peñas wear outfits full of colour and fantasy worked on for a whole year, and many peñas accompany their tour with very elaborate choreographies.

The Carnival of the Night has its most significant day during the first Monday of carnival; This Monday night, the streets of the city become a hive of people in costumes, where music, partying and fun are guaranteed. Everywhere in the city we can observe spontaneous and funny shows starring those who go in costume, who try to represent some quality of the costume they are wearing, whatever passes through the inexhaustible imagination of these endearing people. The nerve centre of the night is in the Plaza de España.
